The freight rates from Shanghai to the West Coast and East Coast of the United States are US$3,275/FEU and US$4,284/FEU, respectively, up 5.95% and 5.28% from the previous period.

On the other hand, the freight rate from Shanghai to Europe is $1,317/TEU, up 14.12% from the previous period. The freight rate from Shanghai to the Mediterranean is $2,328/TEU, up 11.82% from the previous period.

Shipping companies such as Matson, ONE, and Evergreen Marine (EMC) have announced price increases. The freight rate on the US West Coast may reach $6,000/TEU, and the US East Coast may reach $7,000/TEU, which has doubled compared to earlier this year.

Some analysts believe that the increase in freight rates is due to the fact that the capacity and empty container resources of the route were allocated to other routes some time ago, resulting in the current tight capacity on the US route.

At present, many shipping companies have taken actions one after another, including launching new routes, resuming suspended routes, and adding temporary overtime ships.
